Looking to build a career in law enforcement or simply give back to your local community?
An Auxiliary Police Officer (APO) is a civilian volunteer, trained by law enforcement professionals to be the “eyes and ears” of the police department. Auxiliary units exist in every precinct, helping to keep the community safe. An APO's primary duties are neighborhood patrols and crowd control during city-wide events such as parades, street fairs, and ceremonies.

You must:

have US citizenship, a green card, OR a valid work permit

speak, read, and write English

live or work in New York City

be in good health

be at least 17 years of age (18 to patrol)

have proof of COVID-19 vaccination

have no felony record during background investigation
9-week Training Program
The Basic Training Course (BTC) is a robust program held two nights each week to prepare you for patrol. You must attend all classes and pass the evaluations on your proficiency in subjects such as criminal justice, self-defense, deescalation, crowd control, and radio transmission procedures.
